My priorities when choosing the correct Restorer size were;
[Diameter or circumference? When I measure around my penis with a tape measure I get the circumference, but when I buy a Restorer it is sold in different diameters. I found it necessary to convert my penile circumference into a diameter measurement when selecting a Restorer, despite the fact my penis isn't perfectly round. Bear in mind that I use the word diameter throughout this discussion despite its not being strictly correct.] |

The aim of my Restoration program was to stretch my foreskin longitudinally, thereby making it longer so it covered my glans and regained much of its lost functionality.
An intact foreskin has bands of muscle fibres called frenar bands which can tighten. The effect is like tightening the draw string in the end of a sleeping bag. Circumcision removes much of the foreskin that contains the frenar bands so the tightening ability of a restored foreskin is greatly reduced. In my case there is a slight response to cold or stress which makes my foreskin tighten so I have retained some of that functionality. One thing I wanted to avoid during my restoration was stretching my foreskin radially. While this is probably not a huge problem compared to some others, I was mindful that my skin could be stretched in any direction so I wanted to concentrate that stretch long ways and not outwards (radially). I don't know how much of an issue this is but I certainly didn't want to make my foreskin loose fitting - the penile equivalent of a pair of bell bottoms! At the time I originally had to decide what size Restorer to use I was concerned about avoiding radial stretching, so I will include my thoughts from that time here, despite my current opinion that in my case maybe I didn't need to worry so much about it. I look forward to feedback from others who have Restored for their views on this issue. As an aside, some intact men have foreskins that fit too tightly and when they become erect they can't retract their foreskin back over their glans. Unfortunately if they tell their Doctor they often get told they need a circumcision, and some go through with it! That's crazy, foreskin stretches (hello, I've got a new foreskin to prove it) and it's just a matter of their working on a progressive radial stretch which can be done by hand. This involves working bit by bit, every day, to progressively pull their foreskin back over their glans while maintaining an erection. I won't go into the details here but they are using exactly the same principles as I have used to restore my foreskin. They certainly don't need a circumcision! Back to restored foreskins: I wanted a tight fitting CI-5 foreskin. I had lots of work to do in the longitudinal direction and didn't want any radial stretch at all. If I had a particularly large diameter glans compared to my shaft diameter, I may have thought differently, and maybe some radial stretching would have helped the gliding action of my new foreskin. If I had a particularly narrow diameter glans compared to my shaft diameter I'm sure I wouldn't want any radial stretching at all.
To avoid radial stretching it was important that my Restorer was as close in diameter to my existing foreskin as possible, and that is about the same diameter as my shaft. Given that most of my outer and inner foreskin was removed at birth, the skin on my shaft skin and remaining foreskin have never had to stretch over my glans so should be reasonably tight fitting over my shaft. I need to roll my foreskin over a Restorer in order to tape and stretch it, and the Restorer walls are 3 or 4 mm thick. That means I will have around 8 mm extra diameter to accommodate under my foreskin while it is being Restored and that's likely to cause some radial stretching. The plastic Restorer is much thinner so would not contribute so much radial loading. My glans and shaft diameters are very similar so my Restorer had to be big enough to accommodate my glans (remember the glans is compressed into the Restorer space) and then not be of such a large diameter that it contributes excessively to radial stretching. The ideal penis shape would be to have a narrower diameter glans than shaft, that way the Restorer would sit comfortably over the glans and not cause any radial stretching despite the width of the Restorer's walls. In contrast large diameter glans have a double problem. They need large sized Restorers which have thicker walls If I had a larger glans than shaft diameter I would be going for the Restorer which was as tight as I could stand over my glans. Remembering of course the the glans is like a sponge and can be considerably squeezed down in size before becoming uncomfortable. If I had a narrower glans than shaft diameter I could go for a small sized Restorer - about the same as my shaft diameter knowing comfort of my glans wasn't going to be an issue.
My Restorer of choice is the latex 28 mm. It is the smallest size I can use without being uncomfortable. That means it was also the lowest profile Restorer I could comfortably wear. I didn't use the plastic 30 mm Restorer often but it is longer and could have been useful when differentially stretching, especially when my foreskin had grown to CI-4 and CI-5. I would never sleep in the plastic 30 mm Restorer as it would have been uncomfortable to lie on.

Restorers are sized according to their internal diameters. And penises are measured around the circumference. The penile circumference measurement has to be converted to a diameter to help select the right one. The formula to find a diameter from a circumference is: Diameter = Circumference / Pi (Pi = 3.1415) The measure points on the penis are shown in the pic. In my case I have a similar glans and shaft circumference so it didn't really matter where I measured. The most important thing is to be completely soft because not only did I want the smallest size of Retainer possible to avoid radial stretching and for it to be as low profile as possible, but I was also going to squeeze my glans down a little to fit it into the Restorer.
So to get an idea of the Restorer I needed I first measured the circumference of my penis (in mm) when completely soft. My glans and shaft are reasonably similar in diameter and maybe I only needed to measure one, but for the purposes of this example I'll do both. My shaft measurement (taken immediately behind the glans) is: 110 mm My glans measurement (taken around the widest point) is: 115 mm Using the formula that gives me: Shaft diameter = 110 / 3.1415 = 35 mm Glans diameter = 115 / 3.1415 = 36.6 (roughly 37) mm I know that I want to use a Restorer that's as small as possible. I certainly want to avoid one that's wider than my shaft and I have to remember that the walls of the Restorer are around 3 mm think. The problem will be finding one I can fit over my glans even though I'll be compressing my glans down as far as is comfortable to fit it in.
Please note latex Restorers are sold according to their internal diameter and I always refer to them by their internal diameter This table was necessary for me to gain additional information about each Restorer so I could make the correct choice. All in the table are latex unless otherwise stated. Checking the table I don't want to use a Restorer with an external diameter of more than about 35 mm. The only ones that would be too big for me are the 32, 35 and 38 mm latex Restorers. All the rest I can use without causing radial stretching. Now for the tricky part - finding one that will fit over my glans. Well in my case that's not really a big problem as my glans and shaft are almost the same diameter So I would choose the 28 mm latex or the 30 mm plastic. These are in fact the two Restorers I used all of the time. I tried out the 25 mm but as you can see from the photos above it was too small to comfortably fit over my glans and I wouldn't have been able to do specialist work - like differentially stretching my inner foreskin with it (for a discussion on differential stretching see the "Advanced issues" page) What if my glans had a larger diameter than my shaft? Let's say I measured and got 100 mm around my shaft and 135 mm around my glans (soft remember). Using the formula: Shaft diameter = 100 / 3.1415 = 32 mm Glans diameter = 135 / 3.1415 = 43 mm Now we have a problem. The perfect Restorers for my shaft are the 30 mm plastic and any of the latex ones below 25 mm. But there's no way on earth I'm going to get my glans into the 25 mm latex - but probably could squeeze it into the 30 mm plastic. The next size of latex if the 28 mm but that's going to be too small too. I think I'd go for the 32 mm latex and have the 35 mm as a back stop if the first one was too small. What if my glans had a smaller diameter than my shaft? This time let's say I get 120 mm around the shaft and 105 mm around the glans. Using the formula: Shaft diameter = 120 / 3.1415 = 38 mm Glans diameter = 105 / 3.1415 = 33 mm Only 2 restorers are too big for me now - the 35 and 38 mm latex. All of the others are fine when it comes to radial stretching so I want the smallest comfortable I can. That'll ensure it's low profile and easy to conceal. I'd go for the 28 mm latex or the 30 mm plastic. Maybe the 25 mm latex would be too small - especially given that the foreskin will be so much larger diameter than it, which could lead to problems taping. There's always the 32 mm latex which would certainly fit very comfortably but it is larger than the 28 and therefore harder to hide under my clothes. |
